BIOGRAPHY: [Funeral Card]
On June 24, 1903 Lavina was born in Smith Township daughter of the late Thomas Henry NORTHEY and Minnie FREEBURN.  Raised on the homestead in Smith twp., she received her education at SS#10 Smith.  She helped on the farm until she married Frederick CALVERT on October 21, 1925.  They continued farming in Smith and later moved to Harvey Township in 1944.  They remained there until retirement to Sandy Lake in 1964.  Fred passed away on November 20, 1976, having celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Lavina's interest in her gardening continued and she produced some of the finest flowers and vegetables.  At the young age of 91 she still demanded her garden to be tilled.  She also enjoyed knitting and quilting - favoured keepsakes of her children, grand & great grandchildren.  She was a loyal reader of the Peterborough Examiner, Winnipeg Free Press and Country Herald. As an accomplished organist she had a deep appreciation of steadfast religious hymns and gave of her talents and leadership in music as a chior member and church organist at Wesley United Church where she had been baptized.
