      CHILD 3  William George Palmer
Birth from his Mother's family record & his direct descendants to the author of the Book THE DESCENDANTS OF GEORGE PALMER AND PHEBE DRAPER, FHL Book 929.273 P182c pp 12, 230-367, also on FHL Film 1,321,355. It shows Wm Geo married Susan Draper 24 Feb 1842, 2nd cousin, dau of his grand Uncle, Thomas Draper Jr., at Pleasantvale a precinct in Pike, IL, she died shortly & no children found. (Xerox copy gave License 23rd, the Certificate 24th, obtained 1964 by visit of Sarah Collinwood & Lois Allen. Wedding performed by his uncle Wm Draper Jr, Minister of the Gospel.
Wm Geo married 2nd about 1846, possibly at Decatur, Macon, IL, or were they in Iowa? to Mary Ellen PERDUN, PURDUN, dau of David & Hannah Purdun as seen in 4.19 Ancestral File, which gave David Purdun b. 1 Dec 1789 Morristown, New Jersey, d. 3 Dec 1875, at Pleasanton, Decatur, Iowa & Hannah b. 180l Penns, see their family group 11/2002 found by Roy Elmer on website at Mesa Family History Center. Phebe Draper Palmer, his mother, was at Council Bluffs, & left June/1846 with the Mormon Battalion troops who went the longest March in U.S. history to defend the borders of U.S. from Mexico, their greatest fighting was done when the company was attacked by a huge herd of buffalos.
5 June 1856, Wm George's family found in the Philemon C. Merrill wagon company on their way to Great Salt Lake Valley, Utah. Some arrived there on 13 Aug 1856 & through Aug 18th, 1856 (FHL Film, 1,259,742 pg.l; FHLC 929.2 H2ca p.60, Vol. l.). Mary left Wm Geo & returned to her people sometime before 11 Aug, l860, taking her dau, Jane with her. Mary's parents David & Hannah Purdun shows on IGI as at Waynesfield, Wood, Ohio, at Hamilton Decatur, Iowa, and Mary Ellen gave she was b. in Ohio, bro Hosea B. Purdun gave b. Apr 1834 Waynesfield, Decatur, Wood, Ohio & d.1902 at Clay, Harrison, MO.
1860 Census Wm George Palmer at Draper, Salt Lake, Utah, and his son George called Alma, is given as age eleven born in Missouri. His mother on 1880 & 1900 U.S. Census of Nebraska, gave Mary Ellen DELAND, b. Ohio, had 7 children 3 living (David Moroni, George Alma & Jane Palmer). It is doubtful that Wm George Palmer was ever in Sycamore, Dekalb, IL, but more likely in SANGAMON CO.IL with his bro. Asahel, and his sister Jane gave she was b. in Ohio.
George Alma doesn't show again in Utah and 8/2002 we learn from his great grandchild, Linda Grace Felton, that George Alma goes to Nebraska and other states to live, marry and die. (Call number FHL Film 805,313, pp 277 & 278, family #2036/381) under Ebenezer Brown's name; probably from a Ward record, but record doesn't state who gave the data to the Ward Record Keeper.
Municipal records purchased 5/2000 by Wesley Palmer Family Organization, gave Wm George's father, GEORGE PALMER JR, his mother PHEBE Draper-as she spelled it on her own Family record. They lived & married in Cramahe; lived in HALDIMAND TWP, Northumberland County, Newcastle District, Upper Canada, during years 1821, 1822, and William George was born there on 25 Aug 1821. Next we find them living in Loughborough Twp, Frontenac, Midland District in Upper Canada, Ontario.
A letter from the Census Taker of Northumberland County, Haldimand Township, reads: GEORGE PALMER JUNIOR with wife & 3 children in household, moved out along with 17 other families before the 25 Apr 1823, & it gave the list of the families no longer in Haldimand, Northumberland County Upper Canada. George & Phebe Palmer Jr. take their 3 children & remove to LOUGHBOROUGH TOWNSHIP, FRONTENAC COUNTY, MIDLAND DISTRICT, ONTARIO PROVINCE, but UPPER CANADA BEFORE 1867, where his sisters Eliza, Lydia, & Rhoda were born, and his bro. Zemira.
At Loughborough, a Township, the missionaries organized a Branch, & on 17 Feb 1833 his mother & her Drapers visited and joined the Church in 1833. Eliza died in 1832 by fire there; father George died either 4 or 8 of December 1833, & their 7th child, Rhoda, was born on 15 March 1834. 8/2002 Pres. Hinckley spoke of a smallpox epidemic that had come to that area & his grandfather died of smallpox disease in Upper Canada.
From cousin Linda Grace Felton 8/12/2002, a great granddaughter of George Alma Palmer, son of William & Mary Ellen. Thanks Linda. After some correspondence & phone calls we feel sure George Alma is of our same family. He in Silver Lake, Adams, NE in 1880 U.S. Census Film 1,254,743 & 1900 Rock Falls Twp, Holt, NE. Hope Linda will find all 11 children's exact place of birth.
Linda mentioned that her husband, has a Palmer line also. Sent to Linda "St. Paul's, FT Erie, a wedding at St Paul's ANGLICAN CHURCH at Ft. Erie, marriage on 11 July 1850, gave CATHRINE PALMER a spinster of Bertie, by license married LaFAYETTE FELTON of St. Catherine's, a bachelor, witnesses were Lewis Palmer, Francis A. Tait, W. Grasett, John Rooth, (pg.109 in Book 97l.3/1320r, #1614, Vol l, in The Ontario Register Vol.1968, one of 4 Vols) , !1836 research shows that Wm George is only fifteen when he is with his widowed mother, Phebe Draper Palmer, sisters Lydia & Rhoda, & Draper grandparents, Wm & Lydia Lathrop Draper, all in Kirtland, Geauga County, IL, when his mother received her Patriarchal Blessing at Kirtland, Ohio, on 28 Mar,l836. It is possible that Wm Geo may have even met the Purdun's in Illinois or on the trail to Winter Quarters; but he, or whomever answered the l860 Census, gave his son Alma was born in Missouri. June 1840, he is age 19 when with his widowed mother, Phebe Palmer,& sisters Lydia & Rhoda are living in their own household next to his grandparents & uncle Zemira Draper, where his bro. Zemira Palmer was also listed on that Census, in a township, named Pleasant Vale, a Precinct in Pike Co,IL.
1842, bro, Asahel, just older shows in Nauvoo as part tax, & md by 1842 to Evaline Carter. Was Wm George with his bro at Hancock County, IL. or Sangamon County, IL. read the Censuses of Decatur Co, IL. where Mary Ellen's parents show living. Find their marriage; (LPA doubts Wm Geor went to Dekalb Co., IL. for his bro. Asahel's lst child, Phebe gave b.l843, Hancock County, IL; 2nd dau. Emaline gave Buffalo, Sangamon, IL., & 3rd child, a son Earoin born & died as infant aft fall of 1850 at Dekalb County. Did read and not found a Wm. George with family in Dekalb Co. and George Alma shows born in Missouri as given by whomever answered the l860 Census, or was Wm Geo with his mother in IL & IA?
Wm Geo md 3rd Emma Bateman about 1860. Emma sealed to him for time only, there were children given in the Book. (familysearch.org); or FamilySearch Internet Genealogy Service, gave his family possibly.
1870 U.S. census page 547, family #66 lists William Palmer, age 50, born in Canada, gave his Father & Mother are foreign born. Wife Emma age 36, born in England and parents foreign born. The family was in Fillmore in 1865. They returned to Salt Lake Valley & were sealed 20 Apr 1867 in the Endowment House. William George & family moved to
Dry Valley in late 1870 (after the census, which was taken on Sep 14), then Springdale 16 Apr 1872.
His brother Zemira Palmer, helped Wm Geo with a yoke of oxen on 11 Feb 1873 for $405. (at Panguitch or down at Springdale, Ut). Then one week later, 18 Feb 1873, William George was very sick, so Zemira went to Rose Valley to get medicine for him. Wm George went back to Dry Valley, Nevada, in 1873 or 1874. Then he went to Deseret, Millard, Utah in 1875/1876 and stayed until at least 1880 and probably even a few more years. During the late 1880's he moved to Utah County, as two children were married there in 1889. While living at Emma's boarding house he died at Provo on 14 April 1891 and was buried there, Much research needs to be done for him, his whole family by in-depth research.
