Obituary, Lawrence Co News, Feb 7, 1935:  "Mrs. Edwin M. Lewis passed away Wednesday morning following illness of only thirty minutes.  Mrs. Ann Black Lewis, wife of Edwin M. Lewis, died very unexpectedly Wednesday morning at 12:05 o'clock.  She had been in poor health for several months, but was up and around as usual on Tuesday, spending some time in visiting neighbors and looking after her usual daily task.  She retired at the usual hour Tuesday and shortly before midnight suffered a heart attack that resulted in death before members of the family were aware of her serious condition.  Funeral services will be held at the family home, 902 Lexington Street, Friday morning at 10 o'clock and burial will be made in the Lawrenceville cemetery.  Rev.  L.  Hadaway will be in charge of the service.  Mrs. Lewis was daughter of Joseph and Margaret Bunn Black and born on a farm southeast of Bridgeport, October 10, 1864, her age at death being 70 years, 3 months, and 26 days.  She was married to Edwin M. Lewis, Oct 12, 1884, and four children were born to them, three of whom survive, namely Perry S. Lewis, of Crawfordsville, Ind., Judge Philip H. Lewis and Mrs. John Zeilinger, both of this city.  The eldest child, Margaret, died about twenty-five years ago.  Mr. and Mrs. Lewis celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last October.  All of their married life, with the exception of a short time spent in Seattle, Wash., and about a year in Vincennes, was lived in Lawrence County.  For the past twenty-eight years they have lived in their present home on Lexington Street.  Early in life Mrs. Lewis united with the Baptist church, but after her marriage transferred her membership to the Christian church in which she was actively engaged until the hour of her death.  Last Sunday she occupied her usual place in the congregation, apparently in her usual health.  She took an active part in the various organization of the church, giving of her time and talents willingly.  In addition to her husband and immediate family she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. William Downey of Vincennes, and Mrs. Burton Gillespie, of St. Francisville."
