  • Notes
    • From the book "The Kartchner Family" compiled by Sarah P. Collinwood.
"Pearl, the girl with the understanding heart, is the way her mother always thought of her.  Pearl is good natured and easy going.  When she was 5 years old she was healthy and well, but she had a disease of the hip bone called Osteomyilitis and she could not walk for about five years.  During this time her main companions were her mother and her brother Harvey, so they became extra special and dear to her.  She always loved all her family, but these two became real close to her.
When she was 10 she began to walk a little and by the time she was eighteen she could walk with very little limp.  She learned to dance real well.  When she was 23 she learned to be a beautician.  This was hard on her legs, but she loved the work.  It was faith and constant care that made her get better.  She always said her being a cripple helped her understand other people's problems better.
When she was 28 years old she married a good man and had two fine girls.  They have a good life together and a happy one.  When her brother Arnold was killed, Pearl's mother came to live with her and they got along real well.  They were all good to their mother and she to them.  It left a big hole in their family when she died at the age of 97 years and 8 months.
Pearl has taught in most every organization of the church, but she says she loves Relief Society and teaching littlechildren best.  She loves life and people and loves doing things for them.  She loves her husband and family and tries real hard to do the right thing." [2]
