  • Notes
    • From the book "The Kartchner Family" compiled by Sarah P. Collinwood. Written by Pearl Robertson
"Silas was a precise and a very dignified, trim neat man, well poised, and interested in people, but in a very reserved way.  He is a conservative man so he is comfortable but not rich.  He makes use of his time and money.  He has a pleasing personaltiy.  With these fine qualities he has a very good job at Auerbach Company.  He married a good wife for him and has a fine family.
When he talks about his family, he tells only the good things.  He is good natured but can be a very firm when he wants to be.  He is a good carpenter, because he is so particular, but does not work at this work anymore."

From the book "The Kartchner Family" compiled by Sarah P. Collinwood. Written by Elizabeth Hurst Kartchner.
"As any healthy boy, he spent his time attending school, working in the fields with his father and brothers, doing odd jobs for his mother about the home.  When he was 10 years old, his family left Old Mexico and moved to Grayson, now Blanding, Utah.  His life here was about the same, continuing his education in a one-room schoolhouse, attended church with family and friends and worked with his father on the farm.
When eighteen he volunteered for service in the Army (World War I).  When peace was declared he was honorably discharged and returned to Blanding in Feb. 1919, again working with his brothers on a big ranch.  Silas worked at the building trade until World War II, then worked at the Arms Plant as a guard and later a fireman.  After the War he did guard work for Z.C.M.I. and Auerbachs Department stores in Salt Lake City.  He passed away in his sleep, and is mourned by his family, friends and fellow workers."
